Maldives Diaries was founded on a simple belief: the Maldives is far more than luxury resorts. As locals, we’ve grown up surrounded by island communities, hidden sandbanks, fishermen returning home at sunset, and traditions that have been shaped by the ocean for generations. Yet for many visitors, the Maldives begins and ends at a private resort.
We wanted to share the side of our home that we know and love. The quiet islands where neighbours still gather on the beach in the evening. The family-run guesthouses where stories are shared over dinner. The uninhabited sandbanks that disappear with the tide. The thrill of swimming alongside whale sharks, learning to fish from local captains, and experiencing a culture that exists far beyond the postcard image of overwater villas.
